Open Space at Chitrabani

Chitrabani’s new initiative Open Space was inaugurated on 17 January 2018 with Dr. G.Mullik, Film Scholar and Researcher. During the two-hour session Prof. Mullik offeredan illustrated presentation of his findings on: “Phenomenology, Classical Indian Theories & Embodiment in Cinema”. About 25 academics and media experts attended the program.

Professor Mullik, is a Chitrabani alumni and taught at Chitrabani, St Xavier’s College, Jadavpur University, andNandan (West Bengal Film Center). He was the HOD of Film Studies, SXC

Open Space is an open forum for interested people to reflect on Communications, Representations, Media, and New Initiatives. It provides a platform for thinking people in a shrinking space in the country. At least one Interactive session is planned every month.

Master Class

Chitrabani has launched its monthly Master Class with Mr. IndranilRoychowdhury on 31 January 2018. It is planned to have one such class every month. Experts from the media will conduct this class on their specialized field.

The inaugural program titled ‘The Director’s Vision’was heldon 31January by Mr. IndranilRoychowdhury, acclaimed film director of "Phoring" and "BhalobasarShohor". He screened his second film "BhalobasarShohor"and engaged in an interactive session with viewers. The program started at 1 pm and concluded around 6.30 pm followed by refreshments. There were about 25 participants registered for the program.

Memorial Ceremony of Sri Amit Patra

On 18th April 2018, a very sad news was arrived at Chitrabani. At Chitrabani, everybody was shocked to hear about the sudden demise of Sri Amit Patra, a very well-known cinematographer, filmmaker and course coordinator of Chitrabani. So, after his funeral done, Fr. P. J. Joseph, Director of Chitrabani, decided to conclude a memorial ceremony in remembrance of Sri Amit Patra. On 31^st May 2018, Chitrabani concluded a memorial ceremony and the chief guests was his wife, Srimati Shilpi Patra and his daughter, Miss Simanti Patra. The program was coordinated and By Sri Kalyan Banerjee and her daughter Miss Sukanya Banerjee.
